Haynes King came close to leading Georgia Tech to an incredible win over Georgia in 2024. The Yellow Jackets fell just short of a monster upset, falling in eight overtimes to the Bulldogs back on Nov. 29 of last year.

Back for another go-round in college, King has no love for Georgia, as Georgia Tech looks to end a seven-game skid against the Bulldogs. He was candid with his answer at ACC Media Days, wearing his heart on his sleeve.

“Hopefully we’ll beat them,” King stated, regarding the Yellow Jackets facing Georgia in 2025. “I know it’s a big rivalry game. The last two times have been really close. Last one being eight overtimes.

“They’re a really good coached football team, but at the end of the day, it’s to hell with Georgia. We’re trying to beat them.”

King almost carried his team to a win in 2024, rushing the football an insane 24 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns. There’s nothing he won’t do when called upon against Georgia, and he proved that in Athens: “Whatever it takes. It might be 24 carries, 24 passes or 24 handoffs. Whatever it takes to win and move the ball, I’m willing to do,” the quarterback added.

After beginning his collegiate career at Texas A&M, King has a 17-14 record as a starter, and he’s 14-10 at Georgia Tech. A number of schools tried to court him to leave Atlanta this offseason, but he told On3’s Pete Nakos that he has “unfinished business” with the Yellow Jackets.

It all begins when they open the season at Colorado, giving Georgia Tech an early-season test: “We definitely have unfinished business,” King told Nakos. “The first one, we’ve got to take it one game at a time. Being at Colorado for the first game, that’s going to be a big one. Just take it each week, make it simple. Some people try to make it too complicated and try to make it harder than it is. If you execute and do your job and have the players around you playing at a high level, things are going to happen for you.

“I’m not the one to mainly focus on individual accolades or individual success. If your team’s having success, that stuff is going to come.”

It remains to be seen how far Haynes King can go in the sport of football. He certainly has the right attitude though, as Georgia Tech looks to continue their rise in the ACC.
