Iowa TE Addison Ostrenga was carted into the locker room during the loss in the CyHawk back on Saturday. Now, the Hawkeyes have officially lost him for the rest of this season.

Per Chad Leistikow at the Des Moines Register and the Iowa City Press-Citizen, Ostrenga is done for the year. That’s after being carted off with an injury to his left leg that he suffered this past weekend against Iowa State.

“Huge but expected bummer: Iowa TE Addison Ostrenga is out for the season,” Leistikow tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

This comes out of the press conference this afternoon for Kirk Ferentz. He confirmed that Ostrenga suffered an Achilles injury against the Cyclones, with him already having surgery on that tendon on Monday. That comes after a bleak update of him postgame this weekend and following the release of their next depth chart for this week’s game against UMass which did not feature Ostrenga.

“(Addison) unfortunately has got an Achilles injury, so, yeah,” Ferentz said today. “They repaired that yesterday, and (he’s) on the road to recovery.”

Ostrenga had just started his senior season, having appeared in 35 games with 11 of those being starts at tight end, with the Hawkeyes. He, in that college career, had posted 48 catches for 320 yards and three touchdowns.

This season, Ostrenga had one catch for eight years in the opening win against Albany. He then didn’t record any statistics this past weekend in the loss to No. 16 Iowa State in Ames.

With him out for the season now, Iowa will play several tight ends next up from their depth chart. Three tight ends besides Ostrenga have recorded receptions so far this season in Hayden Large (2 catches for 13 yards), DJ Vonnahme (1 catch for 6 yards), and Zach Ortwerth (1 catch for 5 yards). Names like Thomas Meyer and Michael Burt are also options on the roster. Large is a graduate student, Ortwerth is a junior, and then Vonnahme, Meyer, and Burt are redshirt or true freshmen.

It’s Tuesday, and that means the Hawkeyes were front and center meeting with the media to discuss the upcoming game against UMass. As usual, the top player speaking with the media was QB Mark Gronowski. WR Kaden Wetjen, S Xavier Nwankpa, CB TJ Hall, and Zack Ortwerth also spoke this afternoon.
