Former Oklahoma State wrestler Christian Carroll announced his commitment to Iowa State, according to a post on his Instagram.

Carroll entered the portal earlier this month after just one season with the Cowboys. With new head coach David Taylor in the fold following John Smith’s retirement, Carroll elected to take the opportunity to find a new home.

He made it official on Thursday with a commitment graphic, featuring the Cyclones.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Oklahoma State University for everything they have given me,” Carroll wrote. “My final destination will be Ames, Iowa, and I am proud to be a Cyclone!”

Carroll was FloWrestling’s No. 8 overall recruit in the Class of 2023. While he was at heavyweight as a freshman, he wrestled just four matches, winning two by pin, losing one by major decision and losing via medical forfeit.

Since WrestleStat only credits Division 1 matches, Carroll’s record was 0-1, per the service.

Going into the 2024-25 season, Carroll was expected to drop to 197 pounds with the arrival of Air Force transfer Wyatt Hendrickson.

Coming into college, Carroll won titles at Super 32, Fargo and the U20 World Team Trials.

With Carroll moving on, the remaining listed 197 pounders for Oklahoma State are Cody Merrill, Kyle Haas and Trevor Dopps.

But the good news is, the Cowboys landed Hendrickson out of the portal.

Over the course of four seasons at Air Force, Hendrickson went 96-11 and was a two-time All-American, finishing third the last two seasons.

Hendrickson lost only two matches each of the last two seasons. He fell 13-7 to Michigan’s Lucas Davison, who was an NCAA finalist in 2024. He also lost to Iowa State’s Yonger Bastida in the Big 12 finals.

In 2023, Hendrickson lost to eventual national champion Mason Parris (Michigan) and Penn State’s Greg Kerkvliet, the ’23 runner up and ’24 champion.
