Kansas Football announces it will play multiple 2024 home games at Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium

The University of Kansas football team will have a new home for the 2024 season. The Jayhawks will actually have two homes as they will play games at Arrowhead Stadium and Children’s Mercy Park this coming season.
Kansas will play Big 12 games at Arrowhead Stadium, the home of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jayhawks will play nonconference games at Children’s Mercy Park, which is the home of Sporting Kansas City of the MLS.
“This plan for the 2024 season has an incredible number of benefits for our student-athletes, our fans and supporters, our campus partners and the Kansas Football program. While we are disappointed we can’t play in Lawrence, ultimately, we want to create the best possible experience for all involved, and playing two games at Children’s Mercy Park and four games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium allows us to do that,” Jayhawks AD Travis Goff said in a statement.
“It has been a thrill to see construction begin in earnest in Lawrence on the Gateway District and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, and this decision allows that construction to continue on a necessary timeline while also benefiting the overall budget of the project and the 2024 fan experience.”
Kansas is opening the season on Thursday, Aug. 29 against Lindenwood. That game will be played at Children’s Mercy Park. The Jayhawks will then play at Illinois, before returning home to face UNLV — also at Children’s Mercy Park.
After the matchup with UNLV, the rest of the home games will be played at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas will face TCU, Houston, Iowa State and Colorado at home in 2024.

The games are being moved because David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, which is where Kansas typically plays its games, is undergoing major renovations in 2024.
“This is an exciting move for our team as these are two well respected and exciting venues to watch a sporting event,” Jayhawks coach Lance Leipold said in a statement. “I’m confident our fans will be able to create a ‘home field’ that our players will be energized to play in. Our administration has done an excellent job of partnering with both organizations and venues during our construction phase. This will allow the project to continue its path to completion in a timely manner and provide the best competitive advantage for our team during the transition.”
Back in August, Kansas announced plans for a makeover of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The renovations aren’t limited to an updated stadium.
Instead, they will include a “Transformational Gateway District, which will feature a reimagined David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, a new conference center and multi-use facilities that will enable year-round use and drive economic development in Lawrence,” the school’s website said. “Plans for the district also include a combination of new retail, dining and other amenities that will drive student recruitment and enhance the campus experience for KU students and employees.”
