Kevin McCullar will not suit up for Kansas against Baylor on Saturday, according to The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman. He previously said he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to go for the matchup during an appearance on College GameDay.

McCullar is a crucial piece for the Jayhawks this year, leading the team with 19.5 points per game while adding 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals. He’s dealt with various injury issues throughout the year, and while he said he felt “good” on GameDay, he won’t be able to play in the Saturday matchup against Baylor.

“I’m feeling good. I’m a little banged up right now. Don’t know if I’ll be able to go tonight. But it’s going to be a good game,” Kevin McCullar said. “Crazy environment in here, as always. Best fans in the nation. But yeah, just looking forward to getting back on the court with my brothers. Going to be cheering them on all night. It’s going to be good.”

Kansas is looking to bounce back from an overtime loss to Kansas State last week to drop to 18-5 on the season. It’s been an up-and-down go for the Jayhawks through conference play, bringing a 6-4 record against Big 12 opponents into the game against Baylor.

With Kansas’ start to Big 12 play, the GameDay crew also debated whether the Jayhawks are title contenders. They entered Saturday ranked No. 12 in the NET and 13th in KenPom after going 2-2 in their last four games.

According to ESPN’s Andraya Carter, Kansas’ ability to share the basketball and rack up the assists is a key factor in the Jayhawks’ ability to find success and rise above the rest of a tough Big 12.

“I think Kansas maybe that makes them special … I mean, you got three guys that are in the top 20 in the Big 12 when it comes to assists,” Carter said. “The way that they find each other on offense. The way they handled Houston’s pressure. Houston’s defensive pressure is what they’re known for. Kansas handled it like a pro, they’re finding each other …

“The way they pass in the connectedness that they have on offense, and then the defensive improvements … We all thought that Houston was gonna take Kansas off the map and pick them apart in the pick and roll game … I think Kansas is a title contender out of the Big 12.”
