Dylan Edwards calls out doubters, dispels theory he pulled himself vs. Iowa State

Kansas State RB Dylan Edwards participated in what was a single, costly play yesterday in the Wildcats’ loss before exiting with an injury. Now, after questions about his status, the K-State running back has taken to social media to address the matter.
Edwards tweeted out a statement this evening following criticisms about his injury, seemingly of those suggesting he could have continued playing in Dublin on Saturday. He went after those spreading those rumors, whether online or to him directly, in saying he’d never do that and that he’ll be back on the field for Kansas State.
“For the doubters close to me and out of reach, I’d never be a person to quit on my teammates or do anything of that nature for attention and pride. If you truly know me, you know that I am a competitor that loves the game of football,” Edwards wrote. “I am truly disgusted and disappointed to the people that are sending hate messages and making fake theories about my character.”
“I will be back. God makes no mistakes. The Rejected Will Be Respected,” posted Edwards with the 100 emoji.
Edwards accumulated no rushes yesterday afternoon in Ireland during the 24-21 season-opening loss for No. 17 Kansas State to No. 22 Iowa State. That’s as he suffered an apparent injury to his left ankle on special teams after he fumbled the first punt of the game, which the Cyclones recovered at the eight-yard line but wouldn’t score off of after fumbling themselves four plays later.

Still, it was a costly play not just with the opportunity coming from that field position but also in losing Edwards for the remainder of the game. He went to the sideline, back to the locker room, and later to sideline again after the opening quarter. Still, after revealing heading into halftime that Edwards would be out for the rest of the game, Chris Klieman didn’t have much else to share on his injury following the loss.
“I don’t know,” Klieman said, responding to the first question in his presser. “They told me after the first couple of plays he was no longer available.”
Edwards is expected to be the Wildcats’ top running back this season after being their second-leading back last year with 74 carries for 546 yards and five touchdowns. However, with him out for all but one special teams play yesterday, RBs Joe Jackson (12 carries for 51 yards) and DeVon Rice (5 carries for 9 yards) had to take his place in the backfield.
It’s still undetermined what Edwards is dealing with as far as that left ankle. That currently leaves his status unknown for their second game this upcoming weekend against North Dakota back in Manhattan.
