Kansas State EDGE Jayshawn Ross arrested for distributing marijuana, no longer on Wildcats' roster

After transferring this offseason, Jayshawn Ross came into this season with Kansas State. However, following a legal matter with his arrest on Wednesday, he’s apparently no longer with the Wildcats.
Per jail records in Crawford County, as shared by Jason Kinander at WIBW in Topeka, Ross was arrested by Arma police early in the morning on Wednesday for distribution of marijuana. With that, Ross is also no longer listed on the roster for K-State, with no official word yet on the apparent dismissal by the program.
Ross did not play in the first two games of the season for Kansas State. That comes after spending his true freshman year with Alabama, making one appearance for the Tide last fall in their final non-conference game in a blowout against Mercer.
Ross, a Kansas City, Missouri native, played high school football at Liberty North. He was a Top 150 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2024 recruiting cycle. He also rated out as a Top 20 defensive end in the class and the No. 6 prospect out of the state. That’s according to the Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. That would have him as one of the top signees for last cycle’s class at ‘Bama, which rated at No. 2 in the country, for the first group that came in under Kalen DeBoer.

Coming out of high school, Ross committed to Alabama over Kansas State, as well as Nebraska and Oklahoma. The Wildcats got him a year later, though, as one of the top transfers in the portal this offseason. That’s as he rated in the Top 175 and as a Top 25 defensive end per On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players, which made Ross the highest-ranked commitment that K-State got this past offseason out of the 16 total that came to Manhattan.
This comes as part of what’s been a disappointing start to the season for Kansas State. That’s after a loss to Iowa State in a Top 25 conference matchup to open the season in Ireland, before the Wildcats were on upset alert the following game back stateside in just a three-point victory over North Dakota. They’ll now play their other non-conference game when K-State hosts Army (1-1) this weekend.
