Kansas State's Ugonna Onyenso plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal

Ugonna Onyenso transferred last offseason from one team of Wildcats to another and has entered to transfer in each collegiate offseason he has had. Now, a year later, he’ll once again have his name in the portal.
Onyenso plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes per On3’s Joe Tipton on Monday.
Onyenso has spent the past three seasons in college at Kansas State and Kentucky. He has appeared in 64 games with both programs of Wildcats in that time and averaged 3.0 points (59% FG), 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.
After reclassifying and committing to John Calipari as a four-star prospect and Top-30 recruit in ’22, Onyenso played his first two seasons at UK where he posted 3.2 points (54.3% FG), 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks. That included a career-best year as a sophomore with stats of 3.6 points (55% FG), 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game.
After Calipari left for Arkansas, though, Onyenso left, as did most of the entire team in the portal, while also declaring for the NBA Draft. He did so as a Top-115 transfer and a top-dozen center per On3’s 2024 Top Transfer Portal Players. After a month and a half of decision-making in withdrawing from the draft and choosing amongst the college interest in him, Onyenso committed to K-State as one of their seven transfer additions.

However, this season didn’t work out for Onyenso or Kansas State. Onyenso put up just 2.8 points (70% FG) and 2.4 rebounds as a junior. The Wildcats then didn’t get the returns on those investments with a losing record of 16-17 overall for their first such mark under Jerome Tang.
Now, back in the portal, Onyenso will be one of six departures in the portal, including one of three just today, in this cycle for K-State. Onyenso plus Baye Fall and Dug McDaniel announced intentions to transfer at some point on Monday. They will join Brendan Hausen, who also committed today to Iowa, along with Macaleab Rich and Achor Achor.
Onyenso has entered the portal in each of his first two offseasons with one withdrawal and one transfer. He’ll now be doing so again with another entry of his name as of today during this cycle.
