Dylan Canoville throws shoe at Brandon Garrison, fails to stop dunk

Jackson State got creative on defense against Kentucky on Friday. After Jackson State forward Dylan Canoville lost his shoe following a layup in the first half, he didn’t give up on the play.
Instead, he chased down Kentucky’s Brandon Garrison in the fast break and tossed his shoe at him, seemingly attempting to knock the ball away. Canoville’s aim was off and Garrison threw down a dunk but he was left scratching his head after seeing the shoe fly by his side.
The referees didn’t seem to mind the creative play and resumed the game once Canoville put his shoe back on. The goofy play was representative of Jackson State’s dysfunctional first half. At the break, Kentucky boasts a comfortable 54-30 lead.
Brandon Garrison played a significant role in the Wildcats’ successful first half, finishing the 20 minutes with four points, four rebounds and a team-high three blocks. However, no Wildcat outplayed guard Otega Oweh, who notched a team-high 13 points while shooting 6-7 from the field.

Mark Pope proud of Kentucky’s start to the season
The hilarious first-half play is far from the only thing Kentucky has given fans to smile about this season. The Wildcats entered their game on Friday night with a 4-0 record, most notably defeating Duke 77-72 on Nov. 12.
After the win, Pope raved about his team.
“I’m really proud of our guys,” Pope said. “As a coach it’s a blessing, I’m telling you, it’s a gift as a coach to have guys that are curious and guys that are humble and guys that want to get better. We don’t use the words curious very often and we don’t talk about humility very often. But we have a ton of that on our team.
“We have a group of guys that love each other and they love walking in this gym in front of BBN. They love putting out Kentucky jersey on their chest. They love making each other look good. They love cheering for each other. And when you have a group like that it can be really fun. I think our fan base is going to feel that more and more from this team and that’s pretty special.”
