Jaland Lowe injury: Kentucky guard leaves Blue-White game with apparent shoulder issue

On Friday, Kentucky men’s basketball held its annual Blue-White game in Memorial Coliseum. However, the scrimmage took an unexpected turn when point guard Jaland Lowe went down with an apparent right shoulder injury.
Lowe left the intrasquad scrimmage after suffering the injury and headed to the locker room to be evaluated by Kentucky’s medical staff. Lowe transferred to Kentucky from Pittsburgh this offseason and is expected to be a starter for the Wildcats.
In the 2024-25 campaign, Lowe started in all 31 of his appearances for the Panthers. He averaged 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, while shooting 37.6% from the field and 26.6% from beyond the arc.
Lowe had his best performance of the season in Pittsburgh’s 91-90 win over Ohio State on Nov. 29, 2024. In the triumph, Lowe tallied a season-high 28 points on 9-20 shooting. For his efforts, he was named an All-ACC Third-Team selection.
Jaland Lowe was the No. 54 overall player and No. 15 point guard in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings. Evidently, experts don’t expect him to slow down in his new environment.
Earlier this week, Lowe was named a preseason All-SEC Third-Team selection. He was one of only two preseason all-conference selections for Kentucky. The other was Otega Oweh, who was named the preseason SEC Player of the Year.
While Lowe wasn’t always efficient last season, fans are expecting him to take a significant step forward at Kentucky. Earlier this month, Wildcats head coach Mark Pope raved about Lowe.

“He has the potential to grow into a great leader,” Pope said. “I think for us to be what we want to be, he’s going to have to be a star, and I think he’s ready to do it.
“… He is cat-quick. He is as good as anybody I’ve ever coached at being able to get wherever he wants to on the court whenever he wants to get there. He’s got the potential to be an elite-level playmaker. He’s really got a high IQ in how he kind of understands the game, and he tries to attack the game. And he’s learning that fast.”
Pope didn’t comment on Lowe’s injury on the SEC Network+ broadcast after the scrimmage. On Oct. 24, Kentucky will square off against No. 1 Purdue in a preseason exhibition.
On Nov. 4, the Wildcats will kick off their regular season against Nicholls State. Big Blue Nation can only hope Lowe will have a quick recovery.
