Kentucky outfielder Ben Higdon enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Just after advancing to Omaha to compete in their first ever College World Series, Kentucky baseball actually lost one of its players to the transfer portal.

On3 has learned that outfielder Ben Higdon, a former Junior College recruit, has decided to transfer yet again this offseason after spending just one year with the program. He originally began his career at Memphis, playing one year there before moving to John A. Logan at the JUCO level for another season.

Now, Higdon could find his fourth home in four years after he really struggled to find the field for this terrific Wildcat team.

The Kentucky Wildcats have punched their ticket to the College World Series for the first time in program history, defeating Oregon State in a narrow – victory after the clock struck midnight in front of their home crowd at Kentucky Proud Park.

Kentucky swept their three-game series with the Beavers following a dominant 10-0 win on Saturday. Having to work a little bit harder for the win on Sunday night and celebrating their momentous victory the proper way. With an epic dog pile on their home field which can be seen below.

Kentucky continues its postseason dominance, sweeping the Lexington Regional along with the Supers and never trailing during the entirety of the NCAA Tournament. Also getting the monkey off of their backs after being the only SEC program to not make an appearance in the College World Series in Omaha prior to Sunday night’s win.

“All I can think of is to God be the glory,” head coach Nick Mingione said following the win with his emotions clearly moved. “Only he could make something like this happen, so that’s all I can think about is how thankful I am. God gets all the glory, only he can write the story, only he can do this.”

The Wildcats’ win was highlighted by yet another impressive performance on defense after allowing just one hit in their Game 1 matchup against. Allowing just two hits in Game 2 on Sunday largely thanks to Mason Moore, Cameron O’Brien, and Robert Hogan. Who combined for 8.1 innings pitched, struck out 12 batters, and allowed just one hit via a single off of O’Brien in the seventh inning that didn’t result in any runs.

Nolan McCarthy helped produce the majority of Kentucky’s offense after going 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs on the evening. Also scoring on a heads-up play in the seventh inning from second base following a wild pitch to give the Wildcats the 3-2 lead they needed to secure the win.
