Louisville transfer catcher Tagger Tyson commits to Kentucky

Former Louisville catcher Tagger Tyson has committed to Kentucky out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Saturday. Tyson batted .296 for the Cardinals in 2025 to go along with 14 RBIs, 10 doubles and one home run.
Tyson did not see any action for the Cardinals during his first year on campus in 2024. However, he appeared in 33 games while helping Louisville advance to the College World Series last month. He’s currently in his second season in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Cotuit Kettleers.
Louisville finished the season with a 42-24 overall record, including a 15-15 mark against ACC competition. They ended up being one and done in the ACC Tournament after losing to Pitt 13-11, but went on to sweep their competition in the Nashville Regionals and best Miami in three games during the Louisville Super Regional.
Their season came to an end after splitting their four games in Omaha. They ultimately finished two victories away from the championship series after ending their season against Coastal Carolina.
While Tyson was in Omaha experiencing his first College World Series, the Wildcats season had already concluded. After being one of the last teams to make the NCAA Tournament field, Kentucky couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity and was unable to make it past the Clemson Regional.

This came after the Wildcats enjoyed the most successful season in program history and finding their way to Omaha for the first time. Head coach Nick Mingione and the Wildcats finished with a 46-16 record and were considered one of the favorites to win it all in 2024.
While that didn’t pan out, it set the standard for what the UK baseball program can be. While they didn’t live up to that expectation in 2025, Kentucky is working to get back. They’re doing so in the portal, and poaching Tyson, a promising catcher, from an in-state rival fresh off the CWS must feel like a victory for Mingione and company in Lexington.
