Orlando Antigua provides latest update on Kentucky's TyTy Washington

Kentucky freshman guard TyTy Washington left Saturday’s game against Auburn with an ankle injury. Washington went up for a floater, landing on a teammate’s leg on his way down, twisting his ankle. He had to be helped off the court.
On Monday, Kentucky associate coach Orlando Antigua provided the latest update on Washington’s injury.
According to Antigua, Washington is “like the rest of us, day to day,” he said via Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones.
Washington played nine minutes in the game before his injury. He totaled four points, one assist, and one steal. Auburn ultimately came out with an 80-71 victory over Kentucky, and the Tigers have propelled into the top spot in the AP rankings. Kentucky sits at No. 12.
At the time of Washington’s injury, though, Kentucky held a 25-16 lead with 8:21 remaining in the first half. The Wildcats held a 33-29 lead at halftime. But Auburn came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, outscoring Kentucky 51-38 to walk away with the win.

Washington’s injury hurt Kentucky against Auburn
Losing Washington was a big blow for Kentucky in one of the best matchups of the season across college basketball. Kentucky head coach John Calipari admitted that losing Washington was a big blow, but added that the team still had its chances to come away with a victory.
“That hurt us,” Calipari said. “No excuses, though. We had our chances to win.
“He’s a playmaker, whether he’s on the ball off the ball, whether we run stuff for him. If he needs to go get a basket, he gets it.”
Washington has started in all 19 of the games he has played in to this point. He is averaging 30.1 minutes per game with 13.6 points, 4.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals. On the season, Washington is shooting 50.5 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three, and 77.4 percent from the free throw line.
Washington’s strong start to his collegiate career has put him on the NBA radar. On3’s initial NBA mock draft of the season predicts Washington as a lottery pick, going eighth overall. He isn’t quite in the same tier with Jabari Smith, Chet Holmgren, and Paolo Banchero, but Washington has certainly made a name for himself so far at Kentucky.
