TyTy Washington injury: Source provides update on Kentucky star freshman

Kentucky’s star freshman guard TyTy Washington’s injury is now now listed as “day-to-day,” per Adam Zagoria on Twitter.
“He’s doing fine and will be reassessed daily. He’s day to day to return,” Zagoria wrote.
Washington went up to shoot a floater in Kentucky’s game against Auburn Saturday and landed on teammate Oscar Tshiebwe’s leg, twisting his ankle in the process. The guard immediately went down, clutching his ankle.
“That hurt us,” Calipari said. “No excuses, though. We had our chances to win.”
He popped right back up, however, but was taken to the locker room for further evaluation late in the first half. Washington was shown on the CBS broadcast limping, but putting pressure on the ankle as he walked through the tunnel and to the back. He did not return to the game and Kentucky eventually fell to the No. 2 Tigers 80-71.
Washington finishes the game against No. 2 Auburn with four points (2-4 shooting) and one assist. Washington is averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game over 18 games this season. He is also shooting over 50% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line.
Kentucky was leading 25-16 when Washington Jr. was injured with 8:21 left in the first half. Auburn came back and trailed 33-29 heading into halftime, something Calipari thought was especially frustrating without his star point guard.

“He’s a playmaker, whether he’s on the ball off the ball, whether we run stuff for him,” Calipari said. “If he needs to go get a basket, he gets it.”
Kentucky fans should breathe a sigh of relief that the injury isn’t as serious as it looked. Rolling an ankle is no joke, so to have a potential top-10 NBA Draft pick back within a few days is a win in any fan’s book.
The Wildcats also saw their other primary ball handler, Sahvir Wheeler, go down with an injury later in the second half. With both point guards out, Auburn took advantage and sealed the win with Kentucky having to use their combo guards at the point.
Washington shouldn’t rush back by any means, but his attendance on the court is mandatory if Kentucky wants to win on Saturday as they travel to Kansas to take on the No. 7 Jayhawks. The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.
