Jeff Brohm explains process that led him to hiring Vince Marrow

On June 9, Louisville football hired Vince Marrow to be its executive director of player personnel and recruiting. Last week, Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm pulled back the curtain on the process of hiring Marrow.
“Me and Vince have been in touch for years,” Brohm said. “We talked, ran into each other at numerous times, and there’s always been some banter back and forth. I just think that it got to a point where now was the time where I thought that it really fit for everyone? And, I know it’s June, but at the same time, it’s an exciting time.
“We’ve got recruiting going on right now. He just joined us and started on Monday. He’s fit in outstanding to this point, just in a week. And I just think he’s really going to help us as a staff continue to build this roster, to build our team, and to help hopefully continue to improve each and every year so that we can try to win at the highest level.”
While Brohm didn’t mention it, Marrow’s hire wasn’t exactly normal. Marrow had been in-state rival Kentucky’s associate head coach, tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. In fact, Marrow had been with the program since 2013, when Mark Stoops was hired as head coach, and was often an outspoken character in the heated rivalry.
Nonetheless, Marrow will be throwing L’s up now, instead of L’s down, and Brohm is excited to have him along for the ride. In fairness, Marrow achieved an impressive résumé at Kentucky despite the team’s recent shortcomings.

Marrow was the main recruiter for some of Kentucky’s biggest stars in the past decade, including standouts like Lynn Bowden Jr. and Benny Snell Jr. Players like these helped Kentucky achieve two 10-win seasons in 2018 and 2021.
Now, Vince Marrow is hungry to help Louisville have even greater success. He doesn’t expect to encounter too many obstacles, either.
“Sometimes I haven’t had much to sell (at Kentucky) in certain years, and still brought in four-stars, but this is easy,” Marrow said. “This is going to be real easy to sell, and I think I can do it with the best.
“I’m selling a top-10 coach, who’s the best offensive mind, one of the best offensive minds in college football. I deal with the NFL a lot. There’s a lot of GMs that really admire Jeff. (It’s) selling that and selling the city.”
