The Louisville Cardinals are getting set to play host to the Bowling Green Falcons on Saturday. There, Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm will be matched up against one of the most interesting names in coaching, Eddie George.

George, a legendary player, now appears to be a rising college coach. So, while Brohm doesn’t have an extensive personal relationship with him, he does have a lot of respect for him. He also, jokingly, shared that he’s happy he never had to line up against George in their playing days.

“Well, luckily, I’ve never had an opportunity to tackle him,” Jeff Brohm said. “Because that would not go over well. He was a great player. I enjoyed watching him play. I don’t know him well, but he’s a class human being who has done a great job. He’s done a great job being a young head coach.”

Eddie George is in the College Football Hall of Fame for his playing career as a running back at Ohio State. There, he would win the 1995 Heisman Trophy and have his No. 27 retired. His NFL career would come to an end following the 2004 season. Then, in 2021, he took over as the head coach at Tennessee State, taking the Tigers to the FCS playoffs last season. He’d then take over at Bowling Green after Scott Loeffler left in February.

“He got the Bowling Green job. They’ve played really good football. They are well coached, they do it the right way, they believe in physical and fundamentally sound football on both sides of the ball. They’re going to run the ball at you, and they’re not going to turn the ball over. They’re going to control the clock,” Brohm said. “And they’re going to try to pop a few runs and throw the ball over your head. On defense, they are very sound as well. Try to not give up the big play, and they’re going to cover down to your receivers. They’re going to get lined up and set.”

Bowling Green opened the season with wins over Lafayette and Liberty. Sandwiched between those wins was a loss to Cincinnati. Now, the Falcons are going to have a second opportunity to upset a Power Four opponent.

“All those things show up every week, and that’s why they’re 2-1. They’ve played good football, and I think they have a bright future with him as the head coach. He’s been there and done it,” Brohm said. “So, I think those players believe in him, and he’s done a really good job.”

Louisville and Bowling Green are set to play at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EST.
