Stanquan Clark injury update: Louisville LB 'more than likely' to miss remainder of season

One more early-season nonconference game remains for Louisville before diving into ACC play. In-state foe Bowling Green comes to the Derby City, a chance for the Cardinals to begin the year 4-0. However, head coach Jeff Brohm did deliver some tough news leading into the showdown.
Louisville linebacker Stanquan Clark is “likely” done for the rest of the 2025 season due to an injury. Brohm believes there is a chance Clark could return “late” in the year. But it appears as if they are planning to be without Clark for their remaining 10 games.
“Unfortunately, Stanquan had lower-leg surgery,” Brohm said. “More than likely, out for the year. Could he come back late in the process? Possibly.”
Clark suffered the leg injury on Sept. 5 against James Madison when attempting to tackle someone. Since Louisville had a bye week, no update was provided on the linebacker until now. Brohm did not have information on how the surgery went, either — presumably well, if there is a small chance of getting back on the field in 2025.
In two games played, Clark wound up recording seven total tackles. Six of them came vs. the James Madison offense, only snagging one when Eastern Kentucky was on the other side.

Louisville was hoping for big things out of Clark after finishing second on the 2024 team in tackles. All-ACC Honorable Mentions were earned as a result, potentially working toward making an All-ACC team this season.
“Just talking to all the guys in the linebacker room and they know, losing Stanquan, he’s definitely a good piece,” fellow linebacker TJ Quinn said. “We all know, we just got to step up, you know, and replace him. But like I told them, it’s always next man up.”
Due to the schedule thus far, Louisville might be a team flying under the radar. High expectations are there following a 9-4 record in 2024. Some top contenders in the ACC have already emerged and Louisville is hoping they can eventually join the group.
Conference play begins Sept. 27 with a road trip to Pitt, the Cardinals’ first game away from home. The game everyone should have circled comes on Oct. 17, heading to Coral Gables. For the time being, the Miami Hurricanes are undefeated and look like one of college football’s best teams. Getting a win there would be massive, potentially putting Louisville in position for the College Football Playoff.
