The breakup between former Kentucky associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow and Kentucky fans continues to get uglier by the day following Marrow’s move to rival Louisville.

At his introductory press conference earlier this week, Marrow referred to Kentucky as “the place up the street”. Marrow had been Kentucky‘s associate head coach/tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator since 2013.

“That man sitting to the left over there, Jeff [Brohm], like I said again, i have a lot of respect for him,” Marrow said. “I wouldn’t have did it anywhere else. And for the record, I was not kicked out the door at the place up the street.”

“It was just a situation to work with a good friend. … (I’ve known) Mark Stoops over 27 years and now another friend (Jeff Brohm) right here over 20 years. I just feel he is the right guy to go work with at this part of my coaching career. I really believe that Jeff really can take this to another level, and I want to be a part of it.”

Marrow’s departure is major blow to Kentucky

Marrow’s loss comes as a big blow to the Wildcat coaching staff. The Youngstown, OH native had recruited some the greatest players in the program’s recent history, including First-team All-SEC wide receiver/quarterback Lynn Bowden Jr.Kentucky‘s fifth-leading receiver in program history Dane Key and Consensus All-American offensive lineman Darian Kinnard.

Prior to the press conference, Marrow snapped back at Kentucky fans who had claimed that he “forgot how to recruit” near the end of his tenure in Lexington.

“Before you knew that I was leaving or that I was gone, did you hear a campaign like that about me?” Marrow asked Torres. “When you’ve got position coaches who are from Mississippi and you’ve got another one from Texas. You’e got another position coach who’s from New Mexico. You may have been at traditional schools like a Georgia or an Alabama where you can go get them guys. The logo recruits for themselves, just like in Kentuckybasketball.”

“Okay, so [the coaching staff] don’t want to take my guys [from Ohio]? Has football got worse in Ohio? Last I checked Ohio State just won a National Championship. Last time I checked, when you’re looking at all different levels in Ohio, football at DI, D3, D1AA all of those teams are good. Ohio is the fourth or fifth producing state for DI prospects. How is it that we did not have a lot of guys from a state that’s an hour away from us? Go back and look at our players and guys that were players. A lot of guys came from Kentucky, but Ohio and Michigan produced as well.”

It seems as if Louisville‘s newest Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting’s beef with the now-enemy Kentucky fans remains far from over. The ‘Cats and Cardinals will clash this season on November 29 at Louisville.
