Miami quarterback Carson Beck received a boatload of criticism following the Hurricanes’ 24-21 loss to Louisville last Friday night. Beck played his worst game of the season in the loss, failing to throw a touchdown with four interceptions.

Following the game, Beck discussed his game-ending interception with 32 seconds remaining. Some interpreted his words as him throwing his teammates under the bus.

“I think there was a miscue or miscommunication of the play, and the routes that were supposed to be run,” Beck said. “The guy was able to undercut it because we weren’t in the right place. We have a perfect play for it. …(Lofton) just ran the route wrong, and I went to go throw it, because we’re hot off the pressure and again, he made a good play on it, but it definitely didn’t help that we ran the wrong play.”

One of these critics that took exception to the quote was former Florida State quarterback Danny Kanell, who ripped Beck on social media.

“I’m sorry but as a franchise QB you simply throw your guys under the bus like this,” he said.

Beck says he has ‘always taken accountability for mistakes’

During a media opportunity on Wednesday, Beck addressed these takes. In short, the Georgia transfer doubled-down on the fact that he did not throw any of his teammates under the bus.

“Yeah I was never throwing him under the bus,” Beck said. “When asked the question, I was asked what happened on the last play and I think if you go watch the whole clip of what happened, you can see what I said. But the interception is on me and again I’m ultimately the guy with the ball in his hands at the end right? So I have to take accountability for that. Again I think people take things out of context sometimes and that’s not at all what I was doing.”

“I’ve never been that type of person. I’ve never been that type of way. I’ve always taken accountability for my mistakes. I didn’t play my best, honestly I think it was a terrible game, and that was a huge part of why we lost. I have to live with that and take that. But again, it’s gonna be on how I respond and what I’m able to do in the weeks moving forward.”

Beck will look to bounce back from Miami‘s first loss of the season this weekend against Stanford.
