Few moves this offseason were as high profile as quarterback Carson Beck moving from Georgia to Miami. Now with the Hurricanes, has Beck seen a difference in the way the two programs practice?

Not really, he revealed. Beck opened up on some of the similarities given the similar coaching backgrounds that Mario Cristobal and Kirby Smart have.

“I think, I mean obviously coach Cristobal was at Alabama with coach (Nick) Saban, as was coach Smart,” Carson Beck said. “A lot of those guys that are in that tree, they run their practices the same exact way. It’s the same intensity. It’s the same practice script.”

The Georgia transfer will be counted on to step up and lead Miami to the College Football Playoffs. The last quarterback to transfer to Miami, Cam Ward, became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He just missed the playoffs, though.

Regardless, the expectations are quite high, and Carson Beck’s goal is to get there. That there’s some familiarity between Miami and Georgia can only help.

“I remember last night I’m going over the script of what we’re going to do throughout the practice, the plays, the different periods,” Beck said. “It was literally like copy and paste, you know what I’m saying? So I’m sure there’s a lot of schools around the country that their fall camp all looks the same.”

That similarity should help make it easier for Carson Beck to acclimate. A veteran already, you’d expect he can make a pretty seamless transition.

Practice is already going swimmingly. Beck broke it down.

“You have all your indy stuff and your half-line, your 7-on-7 run, all that stuff. Then you get into your team period in the later half,” Carson Beck said. “It was great work. You’re down here in the Miami sun. It gets hot out there, but I think we were working. I think we had a really good practice.”
