Last season at Georgia, Carson Beck threw a career-worst 12 interceptions. For reference, Beck only threw six interceptions in the 2023 campaign despite only recording 31 fewer pass attempts. At the 2025 ACC Football Kickoff, Beck opened up on his turnover issues last season and revealed how he plans to curve the problem this fall.

“It’s not something that we’ve really talked about. You don’t talk about limiting turnovers. Obviously, you don’t want to turnover the ball and that’s pretty self-explanatory,” Beck said. “Last year, there were just times where I just tried to press too much. I tried to be Superman and save the day. That’s not what we need. I just need to be myself.

“So coming to Miami, I think the biggest thing and approach for me is prepare the best way that I can before the game, put myself in the best possible position and then ultimately just trust the guys around me. Just be me, right? Because when I’ve been myself in the past, we’ve won a lot of football games.”

Turnovers weren’t the only area that Beck struggled last season. He had fewer passing yards, fewer rushing touchdowns and a significantly worse completion percentage.

Nonetheless, he still led Georgia to an appearance in the College Football Playoff. Now, Beck is prepared to do the same at Miami while improving his personal performance.

He certainly has large shoes to fill. Beck transferred to Miami this offseason, replacing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft: Cam Ward. Ward was fantastic for the Hurricanes last season, helping the team average the most offensive yards in the country.

While many quarterbacks would feel intimidated by the shadow of Ward’s success, Carson Beck isn’t afraid of the challenge. After all, it isn’t the first time he’s entered a situation where expectations were through the roof.

“Obviously his success is undeniable,” Beck said of Ward. “I don’t know him very well. I’ve been able to meet him a couple of times… The last school I was at, I followed up a two-time National Champion [Stetson Bennett], so I didn’t really feel any pressure there. It’s just a game, man. I’ve played football since I was seven years old and it’s something that I love to do.

“I’ve got a lot of good talent and coaches and positions around me I think to help me not only achieve my goals but be very successful. Again, I’m really just looking forward to the opportunity to go out and play football again because I haven’t done it in a while.”
