Carson Beck injury update: Mario Cristobal shares major news on Miami QB in elbow surgery recovery

Quarterback Carson Beck was one of the most highly-touted transfers in the 2025 offseason, landing with the Miami Hurricanes. He was highly pursued by Miami despite coming off a major elbow injury that required surgery to end his career with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Now, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has shared a positive injury update on Carson Beck during an appearance on the Joe Rose Show. The veteran quarterback has been cleared and is “full go.” Beck has, apparently, been basically full go since a couple of weeks after spring practice ended.
This comes as the Hurricanes prepare for ACC Media Days. There, Beck is set to represent the Hurricanes. Shortly after that, Miami is turning its attention to Fall Camp and the start of the regular season, which Beck needs to hit the ground running in for the Hurricanes to be competitive the way they expect to next season.
Carson Beck was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He was the 225th-ranked prospect and the 16th-ranked quarterback in that recruiting cycle. He would spend five seasons with Georgia, including the 2020 season, and a redshirt year in 2021. By 2023, he’d take over as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback.
Last season, Beck completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown. However, his season was cut short in the SEC Championship Game when he suffered an injury to his throwing elbow right before halftime. That would, ultimately, require UCL surgery.

Following the season, Beck made the decision to move on from Georgia. He would land at Miami, where his then-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder is a student-athlete. Much has also been made of the NIL deal that Beck received to attend Miami. It was heavily reported that Beck received an NIL deal north of $4 million. Later, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that deal could be as high as $6 million and the $4 million was a baseline.
With that kind of NIL deal, there has been a spotlight on Carson Beck and his recovery from injury. Others have shared concern about Beck even holding Miami back, like Joel Klatt recently explained.
“Miami’s coming off a season where they were up 21 in the final regular season game at Syracuse, in a game that would have put them in the ACC Championship game and likely the Playoff. So, they were right there, up 21,” Klatt said. “I know Miami fans are like, ‘Don’t remind us.’ … The biggest question for Miami, at least in my estimation, is Carson Beck. This elbow situation is concerning. He didn’t throw in the spring, but began throwing in May.”
Now, Carson Beck is healthy. Hopefully, for Miami’s sake, he’s ready for the regular season. That begins on August 31st with a massive game against Notre Dame.
