Carson Beck reveals why transfer to Miami is 'one of the better decisions I've made'

Following his 2024 season at Georgia, Carson Beck faced a decision. He could return to UGA for one more year, declare for the NFL Draft or enter the transfer portal.
He chose the latter, ultimately committing to Miami as the top-rated player to enter the portal, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. Speaking at ACC Media Days on Tuesday, Beck called that “one of the better decisions I’ve made.”
Beck reflected on his decision to transfer to Miami, noting the importance of scheme while making his decision. As he looks to take that next step and head to the NFL, he said offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and the skill players in place were crucial in landing his commitment.
“I think the biggest thing for me, obviously, was the offensive fit,” Beck said. “As a quarterback, the OC, the scheme, the talent and guys that you’re going to have around you is huge to the success and ultimately, the future A, of a quarterback, but of me. This is my future and I think this decision is one of the better decisions I’ve made.
“Since I’ve been in here in January and developing the relationships and building the chemistry with me, the wide receivers, the running backs, the tight ends, the o-line. Just trying to develop those relationships and that camaraderie, it just reinforced my decision in a positive way. I’m really excited to keep working with these guys.”

Carson Beck: Miami decision ‘has really paid off’
Carson Beck was also dealing with an injury suffered in the SEC Championship, meaning he could not participate in spring practice. He instead took the time in Coral Gables to build relationships with his new teammates. Beck took on more of a “coaching role,” he said, and took the time to talk through plays with the players so they could get on the same page.
With training camp starting soon, Beck will look to get on the field now that he’s cleared to do so. From there, it will be about performing.
“Obviously, the spring, it was a little slow for me,” Beck said. “I tried to take more of a coaching role, a coaching aspect. Being behind every single play, trying to help the other quarterbacks that were in there getting reps. Picking out one singular receiver at practice … and trying to teach everybody the way I see the game so we’re all on the same page. Ultimately, the decision, I feel like, has really paid off and this offseason has been really good and full of really good work.”
