Carson Beck headlines a top-five transfer portal class for Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes. The experienced quarterback is set to lead the Miami offense in 2025, taking over

ESPN analyst Greg McElroy recently broke down which teams he believes could benefit from the transfer portal this offseason. McElroy said that now Miami is set at the quarterback position — Beck needs some talent around him. More specifically, out wide.

“I think Carson Beck and Miami are set at most of the positions that they have offensively, but I do think it’d be really helpful if they could add a little bit more at wide receiver,” McElroy explained. “You look at the receiving core last year, Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, Isaiah Horton, those guys are all no longer there.”

Restrepo was the lone 1,000-yard receiver from Miami’s offensive unit from the 2024 season. However, taking those three out of the picture eliminates over half of Miami’s team receiving yards (2,495 of 4,527) from one year ago. They also combined for 24 receiving touchdowns the high-powered Hurricanes offense.

“Now, what’s left are some outrageously talented young players and a transfer from LSU in CJ Daniels,” McElroy continued. “They have Beck. They’re set there. I love their young town, Jojo Trader, Malachi Toney, Josh Moore, those guys as true freshmen, might step right out and be among the best players in the sport. … It’s a talented group.

“They’re just young, and it would be, I think, beneficial to have some veterans. One would be great. Two would be amazing. If you can bring in some veterans, there at wide receiver to kind of show these talented young guys how to work, how to approach it, how to be a pro, that would really advance their development.”

Luckily for the ‘Canes, there is no shortage of talent in the transfer portal this offseason. With thousands of athletes entering the portal in both the winter and spring windows, acquiring one’s talents shouldn’t be difficult for a program that recruits to the success that Miami does. However, skillset, attitude, their willingness to buy-in, etc., will all be considered along the way.
