Jakobe Thomas injury update: Mario Cristobal shares X-ray result for Miami DB

Jakobe Thomas appears to have avoided major injury after the Miami defensive back appeared to injure his arm in the first half vs. Virginia Tech on Saturday. Thomas left the game after taking a hard hit and did not return.
Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal revealed his X-Ray results after the 34-17 win. Even better, Cristobal gave a bold prediction on his status moving forward.
“He took a really good shot there, probably a helmet right to the arm,” Cristobal said. “You always want to check it and see if there’s any type of fracture. X-Rays were negative. We feel really confident that he’ll be ready to roll next week.”
Thomas taken to the locker room after the injury and later emerged from the tunnel, returning to the sideline with pads on his arm. Zechariah Poyser was tasked with filling in for Thomas while sidelined, and was productive in his role finishing with 10 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery.
With Cristobal predicting Thomas will be available for the regular season finale against Pitt, the Hurricanes could avoid having to play without one of their most productive defensive backs this season. Coming into Week 13, he’s totaled 43 tackles, including 28 solo, four interceptions, four pass breakups and three sacks this season.
Two of those interceptions came last weekend during Miami’s 41-7 win over NC State, including a pick-six. Before Saturday, he had three interceptions in the ‘Canes last two games.

Keeping him on the field is especially important for Miami given the fact that Keionte Scott is set to miss the rest of the 2025 season. Cristobal painted a grim picture on his outlook for the rest of his season ahead of the Virginia Tech win.
Before going down with injury, Scott had been among the best corners in the entire ACC. He finished the season with 44 total tackles — the most among DBs on Miami’s roster — this season with 10.0 tackles for a loss and 3.0 sacks. He also has an interception that he returned for a touchdown and five passes defended.
This makes keeping Thomas in the lineup that much more important moving forward. With one game left on Miami’s regular season schedule, it would have been terrible timing to see him miss extended playing time.
Still, Cristobal appears confident that Thomas will be made available for the Pitt game. Kickoff is set for Nov. 29 at Noon ET live on ABC.
