The Miami Hurricanes were throttling the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats through three quarters on Thursday night, 41-0. However, Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal wasn’t too pleased when he spoke with Marilyn Payne of the ACC Network.

He spoke with her at the beginning of the fourth quarter and Cristobal wanted to see more consistency from the depth on his team.

Mario Cristobal wanted to see more consistency from Miami

“I mean, we would have liked to have gotten off to a better start defensively. We came out in the second half with a lot of guys. There should be no letdown. There should be no drop off. We’re trying to establish a standard. It was ok. You know, there were some things that were really showing up in a positive way, the second offense, you know, with the quarterback getting there, going down the field, and scoring. We’re gonna get some more guys involved and play some more football,” Cristobal said in the second half.

While he might have been displeased with other parts of his team, it’s impossible for Cristobal to not love the way Tyler Van Dyke was playing. Tyler Van Dyke was near flawless yet again, completing 19 of 23 passes for 246 yards, while tossing two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also tacked on a rushing touchdown. He looks like the quarterback he was named ACC Football Rookie of the Year in 2021. Van Dyke was simply spinning some beautiful spirals on Thursday night.

Miami took care of business against Bethune-Cookman, to the tune of a 48-7 beatdown.

Hurricanes’ wide receiver Xavier Restrepo continued his stellar play with six catches for 120 receiving yards. It’s clear that he and Van Dyke are going to be connecting for much of the 2023 campaign.

The Hurricanes rolled up some nice stats on Thursday

On the whole, the Hurricanes looked strong on offense. Tyler Van Dyke also pointed out how well the ball was distributed — 10 different players had a reception — and said that’s one of the most important takeaways from the victory.

Miami was firing on all cylinders on offense. In addition to a combined 349 passing yards from Van Dyke and Emory Williams, the Hurricanes had 240 rushing yards on the ground. Don Chaney Jr. led the way with 73 yards and a touchdown while Ajay Allen Jr. had 68 yards and two scores, as well.

Next week, Cristobal and Miami will take on the Temple Owls. That one will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23rd. The Hurricanes are now 3-0 on the 2023 campaign.
