Later this summer, Miami will get one of the top in-state wide receivers in the 2025 cycle in Coral Gables for an official visit.

Homestead (Fla.) four-star WR Cortez Mills confirmed on Sunday morning that he has indeed locked in an OV with the Hurricanes. Last month, he told On3’s Chad Simmons that he set OVs to Clemson (May 31-June 2), Florida (June 7-9), Nebraska (June 14-16) and Miami (June 21-23).

Mills has already been back to Miami once this year, as he returned for a Junior Day visit in January. He also took a plethora of trips to campus in 2023. Canes WRs coach Kevin Beard is leading the in-state charge for the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder.

“He has trained receivers that put up stats,” Mills told On3. “That really shows me that they can keep throwing them the ball and he will help them develop.”

Miami has been recruiting Mills hard and has continued to make positive impressions throughout his recruitment. Mario Cristobal and his staff are letting Mills know that he’s a top priority.

“They still keep contact and make sure I’m doing well,” Mills said. “They always get me in the building and show love. The environment is great over there.”

Mills is the No. 125 overall prospect and No. 14 WR in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 15 player in Florida.

“The playing time and the relationships are key,” Mills said of what he’s looking for in a school. “They do not only have to have a relationship with me. They also have to have one with my mom. That will play a big role in my decision too.”

Hurricanes looking to build elite 2025 recruiting class

It’s still early in the 2025 cycle, but Miami has just four commits in its current recruiting class, as of Feb. 26. That group of pledges includes three four-stars, however.

Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez headlines the quartet as a top-150 prospect and the No. 17 LB in the On3 Industry Ranking. He committed to the Hurricanes on Dec. 16.

Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton four-star quarterback Luke Nickel was a riser in Monday’s updated 2025 On300 and is now is a top-25 signal-caller in the Industry Rankings. On3 ranks him as the No. 152 recruit, overall.

Boynton Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star wide receiver Waden Charles and Quincy (Fla.) Gadsden County three-star offensive tackle Lamar Williams round out the class, which currently ranks No. 15 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
