Isaiah Wong adds insult to injury with dunk over Jabari Smith

Coming off a win against the Auburn Tigers in the Round of 32, the Miami Hurricanes are heading to the Sweet Sixteen for the third time under head coach Jim Larranaga. The only thing more impressive than the result itself was a monster dunk from Miami guard Isaiah Wong over future top NBA draft pick, Jabari Smith.
After the game, Wong was asked about the dunk, explaining what was going through his mind as the moment occurred. Wong added some insult to injury, saying he was hoping Smith would try to contest him and called it an “amazing experience.”
“I was just coming off a screen, and they were icing it a little bit,” Wong said. “So I just came in and snaked it, and I had an open lane. I was imagining dunking it, and I came in and got my good two steps in, and I was in the air. I saw big man try to jump with me. I was like, ooh, I hope he jumps with me, and he did, and I dunked it. It felt like an amazing experience when I did that.”
Wong was a huge reason as to why Miami was able to get the win, leading both teams in scoring with 21 points. He shot 8-18 from the field and missed his only three-point attempt of the night. Add in six rebounds plus two assists and Wong was no doubt the player of the game. However, two points came with some authority, getting above the rim and going right through Smith.

“Well we started last summer putting in a new defense called the ‘Scramble’ and these guys did it to perfection today,” said Larranaga. “Turnovers and fast break opportunities coming off our defense. So, very very proud of them. Very happy moment.”
Larranaga was then asked how it felt being able to get over their disappointing season last year and making it this far in the NCAA Tournament.
“Well we were healthy,” answered Larranaga. “We weren’t healthy last year. We had six scholarship players most of the season. But now, with this guy [Charlie Moore] quarterbacking us — can I call you Chris Paul? He is for us our Chris Paul.”
