As the Miami Hurricanes won a thriller over Notre Dame on Sunday, a familiar face roamed the sidelines. Legendary wide receiver Michael Irvin was there, celebrating and enjoying the game just as much as any of the current players on the team.

Irvin would clearly love to see his Hurricanes get back to a national championship. Of course, his NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys, have had their own championship drought. Over the years, that’s another team that Irvin has proven he would love to see succeed again.

Now, Michael Irvin has appeared on the Dan Patrick Show. There, he was asked about what he’d prefer to see, another Miami national championship or a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl. After leaning back and smiling, taking a few moments to decide how to answer, he leaned forward and dodged the question.

“I would take the team that I’ve already won a championship with,” Michael Irvin said. “You know? Whichever team I’ve already won a championship with, that’s the team I pick… I won a championship with both teams.”

A Fort Lauderdale native, Michael Irvin went to Miami to play for Jimmy Johnson from 1985 through 1987. It was in that final season when he won a national championship there. He’d then go on to be a first round pick of the Dallas Cowboys. In that Hall of Fame career, he’d find plenty of success, winning three Super Bowls in the process, including two with his old college coach Jimmy Johnson.

This wasn’t the first time that Irvin has been asked about his former teams and the ties he has to the two regions. According to him, this has been and will continue to be his answer. A vague, the one I won a championship with.

“That’s all I’m telling you. That answer right there,” Irvin said. “Don’t try it. Don’t try… That ain’t the first time. One time, a team from Florida came up here to play a team in Texas in high school football. I was on the sidelines, they were trying to pin me. ‘What state you going for?’ I said, ‘The state I won a championship in.’ You know what I’m saying. So, I’m riding.”

Michael Irvin would obviously like to see both of them win a championship moving forward. However, it appears Miami is in a slightly better position to do so this season. The Hurricanes opened with a marquee win and now appear to be a real contender for the College Football Playoff. The Cowboys, meanwhile, have been through a dramatic offseason that led to star edge rusher Micah Parsons getting traded to Green Bay. That comes a year after they missed the playoffs and made a change at head coach.
