Tyler Van Dyke glad to see Miami get off to better start, wants to finish better
It hasn’t been the dream season many Miami fans expected in Mario Cristobal’s first year, but Tyler Van Dyke and company are excited after getting a victory over Virginia Tech this past weekend.
The Hurricanes evened up their record at 3-3 with the victory, and Van Dyke had one of his best games of the season. Afterwards, Van Dyke spoke about using a fast start to propel Miami to victory, something that’s plagued the Hurricanes all season long.

“It definitely helped us throughout the game, the fast start,” began Van Dyke. “Obviously we’ve got to, you guys know, continue that throughout the entire game. We play four quarters of football. … We’re going to enjoy this win. We got back in the win column, that’s all that matters right now.
“It doesn’t matter how we did it, we won. At the end of the day, we still have to get better. But we got the dub.”
Alas, Van Dyke was more than solid on Saturday, passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns. The Hurricanes run game was basically non-existent, so the quarterback was essential to the offense’s success on Saturday.
Additionally, Miami originally raced out to a 17-0 lead, which sent many Hokies fans home disappointed before they even got on the scoreboard. After seeing it first hand, Van Dyke added that it “felt good” to see them demoralized at the hands of the Hurricanes.

“It felt good,” Van Dyke answered, regarding shutting the Virginia Tech crowd down. “Obviously at the end they came back. We’ve got to do a better job of putting the game away.
“We had so many opportunities, so many chances to not have made that a close game, but they’re a good team. Try to be better scoring.”
Now, Miami and Tyler Van Dyke will look to use the momentum gained last weekend to finish out the 2022 season strong. The Hurricanes play Duke, Virginia and Florida State in the coming weeks, so there will be plenty of opportunity for victories throughout the remainder of the season.
Now, whether they’re able to find them remains the question, but a good finish will go a long way to convincing the college football world that Mario Cristobal will have Miami back sooner rather than later.
