Michigan State graduate assistant Gerren DuHart releases statement after leaving program

For the last two years, Gerren DuHart has been on the staff at Michigan State as a graduate assistant. Now, his time in East Lansing appears to be over — and he released a heartfelt statement upon his departure.
DuHart joined Mel Tucker’s staff in 2021 as a defensive graduate assistant and worked with the defensive backs. He previously worked as a graduate assistant for two years at Division II Wayne State in Detroit, where he played cornerback for four years from 2011-14.
It’s unclear what’s next for DuHart now that he’s leaving Michigan State.
“As my time at Michigan State comes to an end, I am extremely grateful to have been part of such a unique program,” DuHart wrote via his Twitter. “My time at Michigan State has been nothing less than exceptional. I would like to thank the Athletic Department, Coaching Staff, and Support Staff for allowing me to be a part of the relentless effort of pursuing a National Championship over the last two seasons.

“To my Spartan Dawgs: I thank each and every player who I’ve had the privilege of coaching over the past two seasons. … Special thanks to my family, Coach Tucker, Coach Hazelton, and the defensive staff. Thank you for believing in me. The support I’ve received from each of you helped mold me into the person I am today. MSU is a very spirited place! The community is lucky to have such strong leadership who truly care.”
While at Wayne State, DuHart played in 47 games, including 40 starts. He graduated second in program history in pass breakups with 27 and fifth all-time with 33 passes defended. As a senior in 2014, he was a second team All-America selection by USA College Football while helping the Warriors to 7-4 overall record, including a 6-4 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
