The Michigan football team will be traveling around the state over the summer to begin educational and experimental learning opportunities for their athletes from July 22-29, according to a press release by the university.

“Since J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh took over in 2015, the football program has traveled overseas for educational opportunities on three occasions,” the release reads.

This isn’t the first time Michigan will be doing something like this. The Wolverines spent a week in Rome, Italy in 2017, visited Paris, France and Normandy in 2018, and traveled to Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2019, according to the release.

“Harbaugh believes that not all learning is done in a classroom and that these trips serve not only to educate the players about the customs and lifestyles of other cultures and areas, but also provide the opportunity to give back to those local areas.”

Harbaugh turned Michigan around this season, taking the Wolverines from a 2-4 2020 record to a 12-1 2021 record and the program’s first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. Michigan fell to Georgia in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

Now, Michigan can go forward knowing it has its coach. The Wolverines had the No. 9 recruiting class this year, as well, according to the On3 Consensus Team Rankings. They now want that success to translate off the field as well before they plan to take the field again in late August for the 2022 college football season.

One of the goals for this Michigan football team is that they want to be ambassadors to communities across Michigan and around the world. More details will be forthcoming regarding this year’s educational experience. Check back at mgoblue.com at a later date for more information in the near future.
