Sherrone Moore and the Michigan Wolverines fell to USC 31–13 on the road Saturday night, dropping their record to 4–2 and marking their first Big Ten loss of the season. It was a sobering result for a team still trying to rediscover their rhythm after the program’s previous championship success.

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Wolverines at all this season. Despite flashes of their old dominance, Michigan continues to struggle with consistency, among other things. Following the loss, Moore addressed the media and shared what his message was to his players as they prepare for the second half of the season.

“We’ve got a lot of games left. That was six games into the season — we’ve got six more left, and there’s a lot out there,” Moore said. “So we’re not talking about goals or what we need to do. We’ve got to worry about tomorrow — when we land, what are we going to do to get better tomorrow?

“What are we going to do on Monday when we get back as a team? Sunday, they’re off — let their bodies recover, recuperate. But Monday, we’ve got to go attack it. And coaches have to go attack it right now. There’s never any quit in our team — we’re going to continue to fight.”

Moore’s tone was direct and focused, as he challenged his locker room to regroup and respond. The Wolverines have been in this position before and found their way back, including last season’s defining win over Ohio State — the last time we saw the reigning national champions suffer a defeat.

Now, Moore and Michigan will aim to summon that same resilience as they look to right the ship and keep their Big Ten title hopes alive. They won’t have to wait long to try and put this loss in the past, as the Wolverines will welcome Washington to their home stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It’s a Noon ET kickoff, which will work in the favor of Moore’s team. The Huskies will have an extra day to prepare though, as they defeated Rutgers inside Husky Stadium last Friday evening.

Last season, Washington took it to Michigan, utilizing a 13-point fourth quarter to pull away and notch the win over the Wolverines. Both teams look very different heading into their matchup this time around, and a win would go a long way for either squad. We’ll see if Moore can lead his crew to a win on Saturday afternoon.
