Sherrone Moore honest about coaching in The Game: 'It's about execution'

The Michigan Wolverines have found plenty of success in The Game, winning their last four games against the Ohio State Buckeyes. In the last two of those games, Sherrone Moore was on the sidelines leading the Wolverines.
With that recent success in mind, Moore shared during an appearance on Andy & Ari On3 that the way to succeed in The Game is to find a way to manage emotions and execute better than the opponent.
“There’s a lot of factors in that game,” Sherrone Moore said. “I always talk about the emotion of The Game because there is emotion in The Game, but when The Game starts it’s not about emotion. It’s about execution. It’s about the discipline. It’s about the little things that you’ve worked since the Spring to think about. So, when we prepare for that game, when the coaches coach in that game, you’re preparing for that in the Spring. You’re preparing for that in the Winter. You’re preparing for during bowl prep of how you’re going to prepare yourself mentally, physically, emotionally for that game.”
While Moore hasn’t lost to Ohio State in the last four seasons, he has been on the staff at Michigan when the Wolverines struggled to beat the Buckeyes, too. In fact, before this run of success at Michigan, Ohio State won eight in a row. So, things can change quickly in this rivalry if you’re not prepared.
“For me, I’ve been on the other side of it. I was here as the tight ends coach in ’19 and ’18 when we didn’t win that game. So, I’ve seen it,” Moore said. “I’ve been a part of it. Don’t want to ever be a part of that again. So, there’s a lot of things that we do throughout the year to prepare us for that game, coaches and players, physically and mentally to make sure we’re ready for that game.”

Sherrone Moore responds to people who felt Michigan had ‘no chance’ against Ohio State
Michigan went into The Game as an underdog, struggling with consistency this season while Ohio State appears to be a College Football Playoff team. With that, many people were dismissive of the Wolverines, though Sherrone Moore didn’t seem to notice them.
“I didn’t even know what people talk about that. I have zero clue about any of that. I (am) locked in the office and in Schembechler Hall most of the time. Warde [Manuel] told me I can’t sleep there anymore, so I don’t sleep there,” Moore said.
“But no, I was completely focused on our team and our coaches. That’s it, you know, that’s the only thought process I had. I wasn’t thinking about anything else. So just worry about winning the game. And that’s, you know, we’re just gonna go about it like that.”
Ohio State still appears to be in line for a Playoff spot while Michigan will have a smaller bowl game. Still, the Wolverines will get another year of bragging rights over The Game.
