UMass WR transfer Anthony Simpson commits to Michigan

UMass receiver Anthony Simpson has committed to Michigan out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos.
Simpson had a breakout season for the Minutemen in 2023 before making a limited impact during the 2024 campaign. In 2023 he logged 57 catches for 792 yards and three touchdowns.
He has also served as a return man and will offer the Wolverines some potential there.
In fact, Anthony Simpson made a bigger impact as a return man than as a receiver in his first stop in college, at Arizona from 2021-22. He totaled eight catches for 102 yards in his two seasons with the Wildcats, but he logged 18 kick returns for 342 yards.
He then moved on to UMass ahead of the 2023 season. That’s where he had his initial breakout.
Anthony Simpson’s 2024 campaign is a bit of a mystery. He suffered an injury early in the campaign, then an announcement came that he was no longer a member of the UMass program, without an explanation from head coach Don Brown. Soon after, Simpson entered the transfer portal.
Prior to enrolling at Arizona, Anthony Simpson was ranked as a three-star prospect with an 80.53 rating.

Michigan QB Alex Orji commits to UNLV
Michigan transfer quarterback Alex Orji has committed to UNLV, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Orji spent three seasons in Ann Arbor, even seeing some time as the starting quarterback. Now, he will work with newly hired head coach Dan Mullen in Las Vegas.
Michigan had the task of replacing JJ McCarthy this offseason after winning a national championship. Orji was certainly one of the candidates and got his opportunities throughout the year but not with much success.
He threw for 150 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions on 47 attempts. The numbers got a lot better when Orji took off himself, having 57 carries for 266 yards and a touchdown.
On3’s Griffin McVeigh also contributed to this report.
