Urban Meyer puts Michigan in College Football Playoff if it beats Ohio State
The latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings came out on Tuesday night. And Urban Meyer noticed something that has caught his attention when it comes to Michigan.
The program moved up to No. 15 on Tuesday night, right into position where it could leap into the field in the final edition. Of course, it needs to beat rival Ohio State this weekend first. But that really hasn’t been a problem for the Wolverines of late.
Meyer was quick to comment on it on The Triple Option podcast. He thinks it’s win-and-in for Michigan.
“The Wolverines jumping up there, because I agree with Mark (Ingram),” Meyer said. “They win they’ll be the best win of the year of anybody. They win this one they won’t make the Big Ten Championship, or will they? But I agree with Mark, if the Wolverines win they’re in.”
Ingram then spent some time running down the Big Ten Championship Game scenarios for Meyer. They’re not likely to produce a berth for Michigan.
Or, at the very least, it would take some significant work and some big upsets. Ingram laid out the scenario.

“Ohio State clinches a Big Ten Championship berth with a win over Michigan,” Ingram said. “Oregon clinches a Big Ten Championship berth with a win over Washington and Ohio State loses. Michigan clinches Big Ten Championship berth with a win over Ohio State and one loss by either Indiana at Purdue or Oregon at Washington. So they need a bunch of help.”
But Urban Meyer was quick to point out there’s at least some potential help for Michigan in those set of games. He sees one as a potential upset.
“Oregon’s at Washington?” Meyer said. “That’s a legit game.”
Will there be enough happening elsewhere this weekend to get a Michigan team through the Big Ten Championship Game? It might not matter.
If Meyer’s right, a win over Ohio State alone might be enough to get the Wolverines into the dance. We’ll find out Saturday at noon ET on FOX.
