Nebraska has a new weapon at punter, as coach Matt Rhule will be quick to tell you. It also has a unique story, one that Archie Wilson is only just beginning to tell.

Wilson, a native of Australia, is going through his first fall camp with the program. And while he appears to have the starting punter job pretty much wrapped up at this point, he’s still getting a handle on being in the middle of America, so many miles away from home.

“Yeah, I’ve got two little brothers and mom and dad,” Wilson told reporters through tears on Tuesday. “That’s the tough part about being here. I love them a lot and I miss them. But I mean they know this is what’s best for me and it’s good, I can still talk to them plenty over the phone.”

Simply writing that Archie Wilson made his comments through tears doesn’t quite do it justice. The Aussie star was visibly and emotionally choked up while thinking about his family, as you can see below.

The good news? Archie Wilson will be reunited with his folks in a few short weeks. He just has to make it to gametime.

“They’re coming here to see the first few games, so I’m looking forward to that,” Wilson said. As for who Wilson is, he’s a bit of an unknown when it comes to American football. His next game will be his first. But about his leg there are few questions. He can boom it.

Moreover, Archie Wilson has apparently thoroughly ingratiated himself to the rest of the squad. He’s already a team favorite, and he’s sure to be a fan favorite by the time fans get to know him a little better.

“There’s not a guy on the team that doesn’t love him because of his personality, and it’s a multi-faceted thing,” Rhule said, per Corn Nation. “He’s one of the coolest dudes around. He’s got so much juice. He’s one – you know, sometimes I’ll say something a lot of guys are afraid of. And he’ll come back with the most witty retort.”

Wit, emotion, Archie Wilson has it all. Suffice it to say he’ll have more than a few puling for him on Aug. 28 when he lines up for his first duty for the Cornhuskers.
