Nebraska has suffered a boatload of heartache in close games in recent history, as it was just 29-49 in one-possession games dating back to 2012 (its last 10-win season). The Cornhuskers had suffered 10 of those losses over the first two years of the Matt Rhule era and seemed like they could be on their way to No. 11 Thursday night.

Clinging to a 20-17 lead, Nebraska punted the ball away to Cincinnati with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats drove all the way to the 33-yard line before Husker defensive back Marques Buford Jr. intercepted quarterback Brendan Sorsby in the end zone to cement the Nebraska win.

College football analyst David Pollack revealed his reaction on Friday (in a video posted to Twitter/X). In that, Pollack felt that although Nebraska did what it needed to do and took care of business, he still isn’t quite sure what to make of the Cornhuskers.

“Man, don’t you love when we get college football games and we’re like ‘ah yes now we get to know what teams are”, Pollack said. “Leaving the Nebraska game, though, don’t have a clue what Nebraska is. Here’s what I know. They won a one-score game and Nebraska fans, you better be excited about that. Don’t be upset about that.

“You found a way to get it done, making the interception late in the game. Huge play. They played good. (Dylan) Raiola was 33/42 with two touchdowns and got his transfers involved with (Nyziah) Hunter and (Dane) Key. That will continue to develop.”

Pollack tells Nebraska fans they shouldn’t complain about the win

“Ran the football with Emmett Johnson pretty well. I thought special teams made a big difference. Three punts inside the 20 and two inside the 10. Nebraska kinda dominated the time of possession by almost 20 minutes and outgained them by over 20 yards. Won the turnover battle, but still had to find a way to get it done in the end.

“So I don’t know much about Nebraska leaving the game, but Nebraska fans you better not complain. You took care of business and won a close game. You’ve got to do some of that sometimes throughout the season.”

Nebraska got the job done and is now 1-0 with all eyes pointed towards a potential march to the College Football Playoff. College football fans will really get its first look at what the Huskers are made of following games against Akron and Houston Christian, when it hosts No. 14 Michigan at home on Sept. 20.

The Wolverines have won the last four meetings against Nebraska. It has come by an average of 29.5 points per game.
