The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Fred Hoiberg picked up a big win on Sunday, defeating the Michigan State Spartans 77-70. The Huskers trailed by three points at halftime, but outscored the Spartans by 10 in the second half to come away with the win.

It was Nebraska’s first win over Michigan State since 2016. Following the victory, Hoiberg spoke with the Stephen Bardo of Big Ten Network on the floor.

Hoiberg was happy how his team responded on Sunday

Hoiberg was pleased his team was able to bounce back in Big Ten play with a win, after losing to Minnesota a few days ago.

“I loved our resolve. I love the resiliency of this group. We’ve had two really tough games, and for our guys to bounce back with this type of effort for 40 minutes. This is the most complete 40-minute game that we’ve played,” Hoiberg said.

“When we got the ball on the elbow with Rienk [Mast], I thought we did a great job of moving and cutting and getting into the basket. This is a pressure team. We did it in the first half against Minnesota. We did not do it in the second half. Just really proud of our effort. I mean, that’s a heck of a team over there. They’re gonna get right and they’re gonna win a lot of games. So, for us to get even in league after a disappointing last game, speaks volumes about our guys.”

It was a back-and-forth game, with Michigan State even taking the lead with just a few minutes remaining down the stretch. How were the Huskers able to withstand the repeated punches from the Spartans in the second half?

“Well, I give our guys a lot of credit on the floor,” Hoiberg said. “We did not do very well with that the other night against Minnesota. And we completely flipped it. Our guys were really locked in these last couple of days. It’s what you have to do in this business.”

“If you let it bother you what happened, if you have a hangover effect, it’s gonna spiral in the wrong direction. So, for us to get this game, we lost to two very good teams. I mean, Creighton is as good as anybody in the country right now. And then Minnesota, they’re physical, tough. And I think they’re gonna do a lot of good things. So, two tough losses but a great bounce-back game for our guys.”
