Nebraska beat Indiana 4-2 Saturday morning to stay alive in the Big Ten Tournament courtesy of Josh Caron and Will Walsh.

Caron hit two home runs, driving in all four scores for Nebraska, while Walsh pitched all nine innings. The Huskers will play Indiana at 6:00 p.m. ET in another game with the Big Ten finals on the line.

Both pitcher and catcher fed off each other in the morning.

“That was a fun one, a lot of fun,” Caron said on the BTN broadcast. “I thought the three-run bomb was pretty cool.”

Walsh threw nine innings, gave up two earned runs, issued one walk, allowed six hits and struck out five over the course of 121 pitches.

“I mean, we’re super close off the field and, you know, we got a great relationship and just so proud of him,” Caron said of Walsh. “I told him before the game, you know, late in the tournament like this, you never know what can happen throughout a game so I just told him to stay in the fight. That’s exactly what he did.”

Walsh did just that and remained composed in each frame.

“A lot of sliders for strikes and then throwing the change whenever I could,” Walsh said postgame … Nothing different. Obviously, we woke up a little bit earlier than usual but pregame routines, the same hitters hitting the cages (and went about our normal warmup for pitchers).”

Walsh is no stranger to playing well for Nebraska in Omaha during the Big Ten Tournament. He was the last pitcher to throw a complete game until he did it again Saturday.

“I like the big game, I love the crowd here, they’re awesome, they’re really supportive,” Walsh said. “And then obviously, it’s a big ballpark, winds blowing and so that always helps as well.”

Caron echoed Walsh’s comments about coming up big, but always put the team first.

“I always tell these guys that I’m just here for them,” Caron said. “And I just really want the team to win and the team to succeed and just having that team first mentality kind of just puts the pressure off your shoulders. Just anyway I can serve my teammates and just get fired up for them when they do well. That’s just what I’m trying to do.”

It was Indiana’s first loss of the tournament and the Hoosiers were denied a spot in the championship. Now, Nebraska and Indiana have a do-or-die game later Saturday.
