Sherrone Moore will once again miss this weekend’s game for Michigan. He’ll serve the second of his two-game suspension, stemming from his involvement in the Wolverines’ 2023 sign-stealing scandal.

It’ll be a whole different challenge in Week 4, as Michigan will take on Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Ahead of the game, the leader in Lincoln spoke about what the Wolverines might be going through, and how he would handle the situation Michigan has found themselves in.

“I’m not sure. I hate to say it’d be easy, because I was like, ‘What the heck am I doing?’ You know? I’ve never been a part of that, obviously, so I don’t know what it would be like,” Rhule told the media. “They went through it a little bit two years ago, so they know how to handle it.

“I would say I have a great coaching staff. I think we all are professionals on our staff, but how they’re handling it, I’m not really sure.”

Regardless, Rhule knows Michigan won’t be an easy opponent. Both Nebraska and the Wolverines are coming off dominant wins in Week 3, as Michigan rolled Central Michigan 63-3, while the Cornhuskers hammered Houston Christian 59-7.

The last time these two Big Ten programs met was in 2023. Michigan rolled to 45-7 win thanks to 156 passing yards and two touchdowns from JJ McCarthy, so Nebraska is hoping for a much different result.

Moreover, Moore served the first game of his suspension in last Saturday’s 60-point win, which is tied for the largest ever for the Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood was surgical, passing for 235 yards and one touchdown. He also led the team in rushing, accumulating 114 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

“He might actually be Batman,” Michigan‘s acting coach Biff Poggi said about Underwood postgame. “We need to do a DNA test on him, because he could be Batman.”

Poggi will once again serve as Michigan‘s acting coach against Nebraska in Moore’s stead. Prior to being hired as associate head coach this offseason, he was the head coach at Charlotte from 2023-24. Moore will return as the head coach for Michigan‘s game against Wisconsin on Oct. 4.

On the other hand, Nebraska has opened the season 3-0 for the second consecutive year under Rhule. After holding off Cincinnati in its season opener inside Arrowhead Stadium, the Cornhuskers have rolled against Akron and Houston Christian.

It isn’t an exaggeration to say that this could be the biggest game for Nebraska in years. They’re looking to rear their head as a legit College Football Playoff contender in 2025. Their last win against Michigan came back on Nov. 9, 2013. We’ll see if they can get the job done this time around.
