Matt Rhule is continuing to add impressive names to the Nebraska football program.

On Wednesday, the news broke that Gordon Thomas — formerly the assistant director of football operations at LSU — is joining Rhule’s Cornhuskers program in a senior operations role, per Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.

“Gordon Thomas is joining Nebraska’s staff in a senior operations role, sources told FootballScoop on Wednesday,” wrote Barnett. “Thomas was most recently the assistant director of football operations at LSU and held similar roles at Georgia Tech and LSU.”

Additionally, Thomas played for Rhule while the coach was at Temple, suiting up as an offensive lineman for the Owls as a player. Now, he’s joining the former NFL head coach’s latest venture in Lincoln.

Gordon Thomas will bring a wealth of college football experience, including some powerful SEC experience to Rhule’s program. That’ll always be a plus, and it hopefully turns out to be a big help in the coach’s attempt to revive the Cornhuskers.

If things work out the way Matt Rhule is planning, the Big Ten — and college football as a whole — will be put on notice.

Matt Rhule continuing to build impressive staff at Nebraska

Continuing, Matt Rhule is quickly putting together his inaugural staff for the 2023 college football. The new Nebraska headman signed two of his former Carolina Panthers assistants to his coaching staff earlier this month, Panthers insider Joe Person reported.

Rob Dvoracek will be the new linebackers coach, and Garret McGuire will be the Cornhuskers wide receivers coach. Dvoracek is finishing up his second season with the Panthers and played for Rhule at Temple. McGuire also played for Rhule at Baylor, who is the 24-year-old son of Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire.

Rhule is putting together a reputable, young group of coaches together in Lincoln as he looks to revive the Nebraska football program back into national relevancy.
