Scott Frost sends message to Nebraska fans ahead of home opener: 'Don't give up on this team'

The Nebraska Cornhuskers were a popular pick to win the Big Ten West in the preseason. Unfortunately, that prediction has gotten off to a rough start after the Cornhuskers lost their season opener to Big Ten rival Northwestern. In a game where Nebraska was favored by more than two scores, they would come up short, losing another tight game. Now that the Cornhuskers are gearing up for their next challenge, head coach Scott Frost has a message for fans of the program. Ahead of the Cornhuskers’ home opener, Frost has a simple request: ‘Don’t give up on this team.’
“Yeah, I’m excited. We got a lot of players that have never played in Memorial Stadium. I know it’s going to be a special experience for them. Again, I can’t thank the fans that went to Ireland enough. This is a neat team. I know the fans are going to be there to support them. Don’t give up on this team ’cause this is a neat group of kids. And I know a Husker faith will be out to support them on Saturday.”
In a similar fashion to last season, Nebraska lost a tight one to Northwestern 31-27 in a Week 0 matchup to start the season. The Cornhuskers went back and forth with the Wildcats, taking a 4-point lead into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, that is where things took a turn for the worse as Nebraska failed to put a single point on the board after scoring at least one touchdown in the previous three quarters. For Frost, if he does not want to draw the ire of the Cornhusker faithful, he must figure out a way for his team to be victorious in their home opener against North Dakota on Saturday.

Frost expands on his call for more offensive creativity following Week 0 loss
Just when you thought the gut punches couldn’t get any tougher, Scott Frost and Nebraska dropped their season opener to Northwestern on Saturday. After the game, the Cornhuskers’ head coach called for more creativity from his offense. Now under the guidance of offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, it felt like Frost was calling his new assistant out.

Frost had the opportunity to expand on his comments after the game, saying he “didn’t even realize” that’s what he said. Even so, he wants more creativity in the run game, citing the improved offensive line and running backs. If Nebraska is going to have success against Big Ten opponents, Frost wants to scheme correctly on a weekly basis.
“I didn’t even realize I said that after the game,” Frost said. “I guess I was kind of referring to the run game more than anything. Coach Whip is really good, he knows his stuff. Thought he did a really good job calling the game. We’ve gotten better up front, there’s no doubt about it. We’re better at running back, there’s no doubt about it. But in the Big Ten, it’s hard to just turn around, hand it to a back, and think you’re going to be real consistent. I think I was just referring to just having a few more things in the run game that are schemed to the particular opponent.”
