Nebraska is losing a key member of their athletic department, and the University of Houston is the beneficiary.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Cornhuskers are saying goodbye to Senior Deputy Athletic Director Garrett Klassy, as he’s accepted a job with the Cougars. As he moves on to Houston, he’ll be their Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Revenue Officer.

“Sources: Nebraska senior deputy athletic director Garrett Klassy has accepted a job at the University of Houston,” tweeted Thamel. “He’ll be the deputy AD and Chief Revenue Officer.”

Prior to the hiring of Trev Alberts as Nebraska’s Athletic Director, Klassy filled the position on an interim basis, holding down the fort until the Cornhuskers found something more permanent. He oversaw a bevy of different divisions for Nebraska, but he’ll now take his talents to Houston for a new challenge.

According to the Cornhuskers website, Klassy was also essential in developing a myriad of major initiatives for the school over the past couple of seasons, pertaining to NIL and Nebraska’s multimedia rights.

“Over the past year, Klassy has played a prominent role in several major Nebraska Athletics initiatives,” Nebraska’s website reads. “He took the lead in developing #NILbraska, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln initiative to educate student-athletes on branding, marketing and financial literacy, among other aspects. #NILbraska will prepare student-athletes to take advantage of Name, Image and Likeness legislation.

“Klassy also directed the creation of Huskers Athletic Partners, an in-house agency which manages Nebraska’s multimedia rights and radio network. Nebraska had previously partnered with IMG College on its multimedia rights and radio network for the past 13 years. Nebraska is believed to be the only Power Five school to bring its media rights in-house, which will allow the Athletic Department to retain 100 percent of the revenue generated from broadcasting rights, advertising, sponsorships, signage and more.”

Moving forward, Klassy figures to be a prominent voice for the University of Houston, and it looks like the Cougars are moving in the right direction bringing him in.

The future is bright for both Nebraska and Houston, and while Garrett Klassy will likely hold the Cornhuskers close to his heart moving forward, his focus will now be on the Cougars.
