Nebraska has arrived in Ireland and is just days away from being one of the handful of teams who will open the college football season in Week 0. One of the biggest question’s surrounding Scott Frost’s Cornhuskers is improving their defense for this year. According to Frost, he says they’re more than ready to do that.

Frost answered questions about his defense during media at Aviva Stadium in Dublin earlier today. He says he thinks they have a close group, but one that he needs to see their reaction to when it comes to tough breaks.

“I know what kind of defense we have. I think the big question for me right now is if anything goes bad, how are we going to react?,” said Frost. “We’ve got a confident team. A really tight knit team. We haven’t hit any adversity yet but, when we do, I want to make sure they keep attacking.”

Frost’s defenses at Nebraska have yet to finish higher than Top-30 in the nation. Besides their No. 36 defense in 2021, they posted defenses that have ranked 64th, 66th, and 88th in his other three campaigns.

His top concern is making sure his team never takes a down off. Frost wants to see his defense continue to play hard from the first snap to the last in order to set the tone for their season.

“Up 40, down 40. Up seven, down seven. We need to be on the attack,” said Frost. “Our defense is dialed in. They know their calls, they know where they’re supposed to be, they communicate well, they play hard. I’m anxious to watch them.”

A lot is riding on this season for Scott Frost which will officially kick off across the pond. Improvement across the board would be ideal, but starting off with a better defense would go a long way in helping the Cornhuskers make the postseason for the first time since 2016. We’ll see what Nebraska can do to slow down Northwestern when they take one of the first snaps of the 2022 season at 12:30 p.m. EST on Saturday.
