Ty Robinson is back. After undergoing shoulder surgery this offseason, the Nebraska defensive lineman ensured fans he’s ready to return to the gridiron.

“I feel 100% right, back to normal. In the spring, I was just rehabbing from my shoulder. And they had me working out every day, six days a week. Swimming and running, making sure that I kept my weight down,” Robinson said during a press conference on Monday.

Robinson missed the Cornhuskers’ spring camp but wasn’t lying on the couch. Although, with his three years of service, he might have earned a few rest days.

Robinson has appeared in 35 games at Nebraska, boasting 23 starts. The 6-foot-6 defensive tackle has recorded 68 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss and four sacks in his collegiate career. Just last season, Robinson collected 24 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and one pass breakup.

While Robinson couldn’t shoulder-check any offensive linemen this spring, his feet still worked. The Arizona native put them to good use.

“I was in probably some of the best shape of my life endurance-wise, and I slimmed back down. I’m around like 304 [pounds] now. I’m hoping to lose another five pounds during fall camp, but I had a busy spring,” Robinson said.

Robinson isn’t bluffing. Nebraska defensive line coach Terrence Knighton verified Robinson’s claims back in June.

“He did a good job during the spring of staying involved, coaching the guys, and those guys look up to him,” Knighton said. “Those guys do their homework, and they know he’s a guy who’s played a lot and had some success.

“So for him, it’s just getting back into football shape, learning how we do things, leading the way we want him to lead, and getting back on the field and hitting the ground running and not starting from scratch and being able to pick up from where these guys put in all the work in the spring. So, he’s doing a good job of doing that, getting his conditioning up, and staying on top of the playbook. And we expect him to do a good job in camp.”

Monday was the first day of the Cornhuskers’ fall camp. The team will work nearly every day until Aug. 20, when they will head to Minneapolis in preparation for their season opener against Minnesota. While Nebraska fans can’t know the contest’s outcome, they should feel better with Robinson by their side.
