The NCAA Regionals are set and for the second season in a row, head coach Will Bolt has the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the postseason. Before games start up, though, he’d like to see his team get back to full strength.

Nebraska has been without infielder Tyler Stone as he’s battled an injury. Now, while Will Bolt wasn’t ready to commit to his return for the NCAA Regional in a new injury update, he did make it clear that he’s improving ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

“He was available,” Will Bolt said. “I would imagine he’s going to start feeling a lot better this week. There’s still some swelling in there. He got some live at-bats. I guess it was last Wednesday and wasn’t moving the bat real good, but I know he’s feeling a lot better now. I think he’ll be feeling a lot better by the weekend.”

Tyler Stone has been out since Game 2 of the Michigan series. That was on May 10th. Since then, he’s missed eight games for the Cornhuskers. That includes the entire Big Ten Tournament, which saw the Cornhuskers go on a run that saw them win the Big Ten Tournament and propelled them into the Field of 64.

Primarily a first baseman and designated hitter for Nebraska, Tyler Stone left that game against Michigan when he was hit by a pitch. However, Will Bolt and Nebraska have not openly shared the exact nature of his injury. Still, with him being able to practice and seemingly improving, there is hope that whatever the issue is won’t continue to bother him during the postseason.

Now a senior, Tyler Stone began his career at Gonzaga before transferring to Nebraska. This year, he’s hitting .236 with a .328 OBP and an .802 OPS. That’s on the back of eight home runs, 30 RBIs, 16 walks, and 11 doubles. Defensively, he has not committed an error all season.

For Will Bolt and Nebraska, they’ll be looking for a better result in the NCAA Regionals this season. Last year, the Cornhuskers did grab a win over Niagara, but fell twice at the hands of Florida, ending their run in the NCAA Tournament there in the Stillwater Regional.

This season, Nebraska is ready to get going in the Chapel Hill Regional. There, they’re paired with North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Holy Cross. Play is going to get underway on Friday at 5:00 p.m. EST when the Cornhuskers are set to take on the Sooners.
