Bill Belichick reveals reason for joint statement released on his future at UNC

Last week, Bill Belichick didn’t seem like he’d be the head coach for much longer at North Carolina. Instead, though, he and the program’s leadership shared a joint statement in the aftermath to reaffirm his stance in Chapel Hill.
In the first question at his press conference on Monday, Belichick was asked to again address that statement released during their bye week. He said they did it jointly, he and their athletic director, to clarify what he described as reporting which was “factually, totally inaccurate” about his future with the Tar Heels.
“Yeah, just for clarification,” said Belichick. “I mean, there was a lot of things that, some things that were reported that were just, you know, factually, totally inaccurate. And so, made sure to clear those up.”
“Yeah, it was joint. It was joint,” Belichick said.
Entering their second bye in three weeks’ time last week, reports emerged doubting Belichick’s future as head coach at UNC. They had to eventually address those that same day with those very brief statements from Belichick as well as AD Bubba Cunningham.
“I’m fully committed to UNC Football and the program we’re building here,” said Belichick said.
“Coach Belichick has the full support of the Department of Athletics and University,” also said Cunningham.

Even if it isn’t yet over for this tenure already, Belichick is not doing well through five games at North Carolina. The Tar Heels are 2-3 coming out of that second bye, with the two wins coming against their opponents from the Group of Five and their three losses all coming against their competition in the Power Four. They’ve lost to TCU and UCF in the nonconference out of the Big 12 and against Clemson in their conference opener in the ACC by a combined score of 120-33 with an average margin of loss of almost 30 points per defeat.
Belichick calls reports of looking for an exit from UNC ‘categorically false’
Bill Belichick told reporters on Monday that he has no plans to look to exit the school. He called recent reports of that news “categorically false.”
“So, I’ll just start with, you know, right off the bat, just some of the reports out last week about me looking for a buyout and trying to leave here, and all that. It’s categorically false,” said Belichick to open his press conference this morning. “There’s zero truth to any of that.”
“Glad I’m here. We’re working towards, you know, our goals and the process. Had great support from, you know, Chancellor Roberts and Bubba, Steve, and so forth, you know, and Mike Lombardi. Those people have all been great, and I appreciate all their help and everything,” said Belichick. “You know, we just believe very much in the process. You know, the score will take care of itself, and I’ve always believed that. You just got to keep working and grinding away, and that’s exactly what we’re doing
