Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman admitted Jordon Hudson was becoming a distraction for Bill Belichick and North Carolina. For weeks now, there’s been talk about the two’s relationship, personally and professionally.

Long time NFL writer Peter King already ripped the situation and Belichick is now reportedly looking for a PR team to do a bit of damage control.

“The number one thing we used to talk about all the time in New England was distractions,” Edelman said on The Herd. “Let’s not make distractions, the game’s already as hard as it is to prepare for, to play, to coach and you know, regardless of what her role is, Jordon, yeah I thought he got an unfair public opinion on the whole thing, because that happens all the time.

“We’re doing behind the scenes this that, you got someone who represents you, they’re going to jump in, but now that it’s gained and snowballed to what it’s become right now, we’re talking about it three weeks later. It’s becoming a distraction. So that’s what I’m sure that’s what we all think right now, this is becoming a distraction. We gotta practice what we preach here.”

The PR job would reportedly be to work directly on North Carolina matters. However, the scope would go beyond that too, and assist Belichick with non-North Carolina-related issues.

This comes as the scrutiny on Belichick and Hudson’s relationship has grown in the public eye, especially in light of a recent CBS interview about his book in which Hudson cut off questions about their relationship. Now, there has been tension growing from every angle.

Publicly, sports media figures like Colin Cowherd have been critical, comparing the relationship to Bitcoin. Then, Netflix trolled the relationship in a skit on Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney and later Saturday Night Live got in on the action with their own skit joking about the relationship.

“I mean, we’re talking about this three weeks later,” Edelman said. “It’s on ABC, it’s on this, it’s on that. I mean, it’s getting to a point where we gotta start worrying about, you know, the ACC. We gotta start worrying about Dabo Swinney, we shouldn’t be talking about our girlfriend, and that’s how coach would say it to us. So you know, that’s the truth, you know, when it comes down to running a football organization, yeah, playing football. Let’s make the main thing the main thing.”
