Former North Carolina basketball star Michael Jordan has been spotted sitting courtside at the North Carolina vs. NC State game in Chapel Hill. The Hall of Famer spent three seasons with the Tar Heels under Dean Smith, winning a national championship in 1982.

In his collegiate career, Michael Jordan averaged 17.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists for North Carolina. The 6-foot-6 in-state product went on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all time, setting countless records on his way to six NBA championships and five MVP awards.

In the NBA, he averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists over 15 seasons with the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. Jordan also won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA before having his No. 23 jersey retired by North Carolina and the Chicago Bulls.

Just one night prior to his appearance in Chapel Hill, Jordan was seen in the owner’s box of his Charlotte Hornets as they took on the Los Angeles Lakers. As a large second half comeback by the visiting team brought the game close, he paced back and forth while watching his team hold on in the final seconds.

College GameDay announces next location

ESPN’s College GameDay is back on the road, in the gym before the biggest games once again on Saturdays. After returning to action on Saturday prior to Kentucky at Kansas, the crew revealed they’ll be live from Chapel Hill next weekend, ready for Duke at North Carolina.

For one final time, Mike Krzyzewski will lead Duke into battle against North Carolina on their turf. As the Blue Devils coach enjoys his final season at the program’s fearless leader, he’ll be looking to break the hearts of Tar Heels faithful one more time.

As for North Carolina, Hubert Davis will look to get a victory in his first chance against Duke as the Tar Heels coach. With forward Armando Bacot leading the way, North Carolina will need every one of the 16.3 points he averages.

The highly-anticipated showdown between Duke and North Carolina will take place next Saturday at 6:00 PM EST on ESPN.
